In the late winter (and earlier than other varieties), it produces pretty, pink, cup shaped flowers on leafless stems, which look particularly striking when trained up a wall or fence. The aromatic, green yellow fruit that follows in autumn is traditionally used to make preserves and jellies (see note below).
