Let's be honest about the Supreme Court Ruling Today, I realize, I may offend many traditionalist friends, besides the fact I'm traditionalist (classical liberal/libertarian)myself. Though WE need to be honest about 1: History 2: What the Constitution/Bill of Rights states etc. Firstly, keep in mind when our country was fighting for it's independence. Our war was considered a LIBERAL idea. The idea of self governance was extraordinary radical for it's age. This is why early papers define our country as a Constitutional Republic. (A Government being held to the law vs above the law.) While preserving it's voice/values by elected representatives. At the time ONLY LAND OWNERS could VOTE. As well before the US Constitution our country was governed by Articles of Confederation. (Majority Power To The States vs National/Federal Govt.) When the Constitution was debated and in process of being written there was disagreement about having a preamble, and NOT including a BILL OF RIGHTS. Those that OPPOSED the Bill of Rights, (10 at the time) were Alexander Hamilton, and others felt it was unnecessary and in the future give the government room to grow to what it couldn't do, which was written down. My feelings on this debate among many, is that Marriage should have stayed a cultural norm. I understand marriage was introduced legally to define/uphold a set of values. Though when this occurred, we all granted the government power to define marriage as well any future definitions on what many deem culturally significant. I stand upon the point of view on history, that it was legally wrong to state what marriage is. If Marriage was never defined, we would have an entirely different history then at present. Marriage would have continued to be a religious experience. Yes, I am sure Gay Marriage or some form of it may have existed even possibly 50-100 years ago. Remember Culture progresses at exponential rates compared to Governmental acknowledgement to human rights, or grievances. Keep in mind, I supported Civil Unions. Though I feel the idea of Gay Marriage creates two things, one another checkbox on legal/medical forms in which to be identified and possibly discriminated in the future by government. As well now the possible future implementation of impediments to gays, or any other life style choices by others. Some of these could be Marriage Taxes, for gays, or other forms of taxes. We have now empowered the government to take money and legally classify gays, as a minority. My fear is simply the mater of fact that this can be used as a weapon by the government. This occurs in countries around the world today, Transnistria (Americans are subject to kidnappings, and extra taxes for simply being American by the illegitimate govt. there.) Gays, or any minorities in Belarus, Russia & China are beaten in public. Often cops chip in on the violence etc. For the fact, that for some government(s) the matter of which I think. Does mean an execution style bullet to the head even for myself. (Transnistria, Belarus, Russia, China etc) There are things, I feel the government just shouldn't know. After all I would be hanged in a Muslim country for being a freemason. The world is a lot darker outside our borders, more than one can imagine.
